Population structure of Pacific green turtles: a new perspective from microsatellite DNA variation

نویسندگان

چکیده

This study builds upon the current understanding of green turtle population genetic structure in Pacific that has largely been based on mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), by examining nuclear (nDNA) diversity, regional connectivity, and male-mediated gene flow. A total 1,111 nesting samples were analyzed with 10 microsatellite markers from 20 rookeries. Population differentiation (F ST ) was significant (p <0.05) all but 8 190 pairwise rookery comparisons. Pairwise F values discriminant analysis principal components (DAPC) revealed a defined East-West split consistent mtDNA studies. Additionally, isolation-by-distance evaluated estimated effective migration surfaces (EEMS). The data indicated throughout rookeries agreement stock studies, except for some areas Central American Australian continental shelves, providing evidence possible series analyses performed did indicate flow likely occurred where breeding corridors separate populations overlap courtship areas. may occur primarily along margins continents, including Mexico America East Pacific. Our provides an ocean-wide baseline nDNA dataset reexamines thinking regarding role male turtles dynamics management units (MU) to what extent occurs among designated MUs.

Population structure and genetic diversity in tristylous Narcissus triandrus: insights from microsatellite and chloroplast DNA variation.

We investigated cpDNA sequence and nuclear microsatellite variation among populations of the wild daffodil Narcissus triandrus to examine the role of historical vs. contemporary forces in shaping population structure, morphological differentiation and sexual-system evolution. This wide-ranging heterostylous species of the Iberian Peninsula is largely composed of two allopatric varieties (vars. ...

Population structure of chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) across the Pacific Rim, determined from microsatellite analysis

Delineation of phylogenetically and adaptively distinct groups in the distribution of chum salmon around the Pacific Rim may lead to conservation of genetic diversity through an understanding of the origin and the evolutionary processes promoting and maintaining genetic differentiation. An evaluation of genetic variation in describing the population structure of salmonids, is a key component in...

Causes of mortality in green turtles from Hawaii and the insular Pacific exclusive of fibropapillomatosis.

Fibropapillomatosis (FP) comprises a majority of green turtle stranding in Hawaii; however, green turtles in the Pacific are also susceptible to non-FP related causes of death. We present here necropsy findings from 230 free-ranging green turtles originating from Hawaii, the Mariana archipelago, Palmyra Atoll, American Samoa, and Johnston Atoll that died from non-FP related causes. Most turtles...

Population structure and variation in Persian sturgeon (Acipenser percicus ) from the Caspian Sea as determind from mitochondrial DNA sequences of the control region

Mitochondria1 DNA (mtDNA) control region sequences were analyzed to evaluate the population genetic structure of Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus) in Caspian Sea. A total of 45 specimens were collected from the different locations of the Caspian Sea. MtDNA control region was amplified using PCR. Direct sequencing was performed according standard method. The results showed that 12 haplotypes...
